Private investigator Ian Kennedy makes a living locating missing persons in his adopted Great Britain, but his latest case proves to be quite a stretch. A search for a client's missing daughter gets our hero encounters with the supernatural that he didn't bargain for - until we learn from flashback chapters that he's had brushes with the fairy world before.
Tinged with Celtic folklore and myth and largely set in London and in Scotland, with some brief excursions stateside, The Mysteries is a great page turner, and straddles both the mystery and fantasy genres well. I wanted more from the ending, which left me cold, and the flashback and folklore chapters break the continuity somewhat, but help build tension and flesh out the story. Tuttle's writing clicks along very well, and I'd definitely recommend The Mysteries to anyone, particularly for lovers of British lore. It's my understanding that she's got a new one coming out (The Silver Bough) from the reviews I have been reading, and I frankly can't wait.
