You May Not Tie an Alligator to a Fire Hydrant: 101 Real Dumb Laws by Jeff Koon and Andy Powell
I have moved a lot in my lifetime, living in ten different cities or towns so far. The people in every single place have sworn that there is some kind of law like "it is illegal to let your goat graze downtown" or "you can't tie your horse at the courthouse" -- things like that. I have always thought stories of such laws were urban legends, or were people talking about a law that used to exist but
doesn't anymore. But, au contraire! There are still bizarre, arcane laws out there in state and federal statutes across the nation. Some of them are hilarious!! This book pulls together some of the most absurd and ridiculous laws of this sort. I haven't laughed so loudly while reading something in a while. The authors present each law with their interpretation of it in its silliest light. Then they include the actual law, chapter and/or section number of the actual code. So, you better watch out when you're doing what you might think is a perfectly harmless thing, like burping in church, or honking your horn, playing frisbee, sitting on the curb, eavesdropping, buying a hamburger, flying a kite, or obstructing a traveled wagon road ... If you read this book, be prepared to laugh till your sides hurt. I laughed so loud at some of these that I scared my cat - so much that she went and hid under the bed! It is perfect for those of us who have a short attention span or only have moments here and there to read a book for leisure.
